To get a Michigan
Hunter Safety card in Lake County, you need to do both of these two things:
- On your own: learn the
written material and get your "admission ticket". You have two options:
- Paid option: Register for the
Official Michigan Hunter Safety Course Online, take the course, pass it.
Once you pass the online course you get a "Hunter Education Card". This is not a Hunter Safety card (also known as
an "orange card" - see below); it's your ticket to the
field day.
- - or -
- Free option: Study from the free textbooks,
Today's Hunter in Michigan
and
Hunting and Trapping Digest.
The
4-page review is your ticket to the field day.
- With us: Register for
and attend a field day, which includes written and practical
exams. Register for the Field Day
here,
find out more about Michigan's Hunter Safety program in general here,
also you can learn more details about Lake County's own particular Field Day here.
To attend the field day you need one of two entrance tickets:
either the "Hunter Education Card" you got from passing your online course, or your 4-page review
questions which you completed, answered, and filled out yourself. (We will check.)
The field day lasts 4 hours, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. You will be busy the whole time.
We provide a snack; a porta-potty is available.
After you complete the field day you get your Michigan
Hunter Safety card right there on the spot. This is the "orange card" that you can use to buy
a hunting license in Michigan, also in many other states.
